Here is my list of goals. It’s not very likely that I will achieve them all but it’s always on my mind and it motivates me to go farther and/or faster.

Distance

  • Run 5k.
  • Run 5 miles.
  • Run 10k.
  • Run 10 miles.
  • Run 13 miles.
  • Run 18 miles.
  • Finish a marathon.
  • Finish a 50k ultra-marathon.
  • Finish a 50 mile ultra-marathon.

Pace

  • Run 5 miles at sub-8:00 pace.
  • Run 5 miles at sub-7:30 pace.
  • Run 5 miles at sub-7:00 pace.
  • Qualify for the Boston Marathon and complete it.

Other

  • Finish top 10 in my age group in a race.
  • Finish top 3 in my age group in a race.
  • Finish top in my age group in a race.

  • Ride 100 miles.
  • Ride 150 miles.

Speed

  • Ride 10 miles at 18 mph.
  • Ride 10 miles at 20 mph.
  • Ride 10 miles at 22 mph.

Pool Distance

  • Swim 18 laps (1/2 mile).
  • Swim 36 laps (1 miles).
  • Swim 45 laps (1-1/4 miles).
  • Swim 72 laps (2 miles).
  • Swim 90 laps (2-1/2 miles).

Open-Water Distance

  • Swim a ‘reasonable’ distance in the ocean.
  • Swim to the buoy and back (150 yards).
  • Swim across the lake (340 yards).
  • Swim across the lake and back (640 yards).
  • Swim to “Turtle Island” (1/2 mile).
  • Swim to “Turtle Island” and back (1 mile).
  • Swim 2 miles in open water.
  • Swim 2-1/2 miles in open water.

Pace

  • Swim 1/2 mile at sub-2:00/100 yard pace.
  • Swim 1/2 mile at sub-1:50/100 yard pace.
  • Swim 1/2 mile at sub-1:40/100 yard pace (30 min/mile)
